Anybody who prefers to be known as 'Topher' instead of 'Chris' is going to be a bit of a character. First Lieutenant Christopher Kovacs, our resident geek/wonk/guru on tech issues, is just that kind of guy. Toph helps maintain the production environment, and jumps to the rescue when the managing editor fat-fingers a SQL query or two. He also is our resident foward-thinker, and somehow manages to stay a step or two ahead of the rest of us, kinda like Radar O'Reilly was with Col Potter...

Lt Kovacs has been a member of Civil Air Patrol since joining as a cadet in 1989 as a member of the Sanilac Composite Squadron of Michigan Wing. That's right, 14 whole years, and he's still here, much to the dismay of his fellow members.

Christopher, or "Topher" as he's known to his friends and the local law enforcement authorities, has served in a variety of positions both at the local unit level & the wing level, most recently as the Michigan Wing Director of Communications.

As a cadet, Toph climbed the ranks steadily, eventually reaching Cadet Lieutenant Colonel - twice!  Since turning senior member, its been all down hill for him.

In his civilian life, Toph is an internet geek, database wonk, singer of songs and maker of magic. He pulls our managing editor's chesnuts out of the fire constantly...
