Leadership Editor
Capt George Berghorn, USACC

Captain George H. Berghorn is CadetStuff's Leadership Editor (read as doesn't know how to say "no" to Ninness and Stanford - should have paid more attention to Nancy Reagan), and as the only non-CAP guy on the site, currently also serves as the EEO and Diversity Officer.

Captain Berghorn entered "Cadet-land" by joining Civil Air Patrol in NY Wing in 1989, and that wing's been in a 12-step program ever since. Originally, he joined CAP to get a leg-up on becoming a Cadet at Zoomie U., but very quickly Cadet Berghorn wised up and took an Army ROTC scholarship instead and joined the SMP (Simultaenous Membership Program). Third Lieutenant... errr, "CaDot" Berghorn, ever the overachiever, decided while at "Dope on a Rope" School (That's Air Assault School for you non-Army types) that he didn't need no steenkin' rope to exit the UH-60 Blackhawk (probably safer than riding the thing to the ground) and found himself on the receiving end of a "Dear George" letter from an Army medical board. With his hopes forever dashed, he resigned himself to rise above the lowly status of "Dot" and after languishing for over three years as a C/Lt Col earned the General Carl A. Spaatz award three weeks before his 21st birthday.

Into the Grey he went, picking up positions as leadership officer and deputy squadron commander, and while in Pennsylvania (still as a member of NY Wing mind you) earned himself the Hugh Waskovich Ranger Team Commander Award and was the OIC of the PA Wing Color Guard Competition champion team. Moves to NJ and MI followed (as did various writs, warrants and subpoenas, according to the poster we saw in the post office) and eventually a promotion to Major (after 9+ years as a Captain - hey, not all of these Spaatz guys are overachievers). During that time Captain Berghorn was also brought into the American Cadet Alliance, where he serves as the Commanding Officer of the Military Cadets of Selfridge and is the National Assistant Chief of Staff for Education and Training for the ACA.

Captain Berghorn has a BS in political science and earth science as well as a MS in forest science/aquatic ecology, and is currently working on a PhD at Michigan State University. In his personal life, Captain Berghorn is the director of policy for a forest products industry trade association and is married to Emily (who is NOT a former Cadet or member of the military - remember, not an overachieving Spaatzen). In his spare time Captain Berghorn enjoys developing new ways to frustrate the chain of command, being irreverent, working on his newly purchased 106 year old house, and doing bad cartoon character impressions.
