Major Derrell Lipman is CadetStuff's serious Linux/Unix wonk. He handles all the domain arrangements,
name services (ever wonder how that "forums.cadetstuff.org" thing works? You have Maj Lipman to thank
for that!), and e-mail redirectors. He is the master of the command line interface!
Maj Lipman, a "California Boy" (although not currently living in California), has been a member of Civil Air Patrol since 1989. As a member of the Clover Field Composite Squadron (Squadron 51) in California Wing for his first six years in CAP, he involved himself in all aspects of CAP's missions. Maj Lipman has a Master Rating in Cadet Programs, is an active Civil Air Patrol pilot with numerous Cadet orientation flights given, and is ES rated as a Mission Coordinator (Incident Commander), Mission Pilot, Ground Team Leader and Communications Unit Director.
Following his move to Massachusetts, Maj Lipman founded, and is the Commander of, the Lt Col Frank Pocher Minute Man Squadron based at Minute Man Air Field (6B6). As of early 2001 (the time of this writing), the squadron had grown to about 35 active Cadets with a retention rate of well over 50%/year. (25% of the founding Cadets are still active after four years.)
Maj Lipman's interests regarding Cadet Programs lie in providing a challenging program which continues to retain Cadets' interest; creating a squadron environment that fosters teamwork as a primary goal; and teaching leadership methods that will benefit Cadets in their future civilian or military careers.
